NAIROBI CITY TOUR (3 Hrs)

Highlights: City Centre, Shopping areas, Parliament Buildings, National Museum and Snake Park.
The tour covers the modern city centre, the National Museum and the adjacent Snake Park, Parliament Buildings, the Railway Museum where old steam locomotives are exhibited including the one from which Superintendent John Lyall was taken from by a man-eating lion in Tsavo in 1901. You will also visit the city market where a wide variety of African curios and tropical fruit and flowers are on sale, ending with a visit to the Kenyatta International Conference Centre view-point which has a revolving restaurant.


NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK

Highlights: Nairobi National Park Safari and Animal Orphanage.
This unique wildlife sanctuary is just a few kilometers from Nairobi's bustling city centre but despite its proximity over 50 species of mammals can be found there including four of the 'big five'. The tour also includes a visit to the animal orphanage where wounded or orphaned animals are nurtured back to health. The tour returns to the city centre by sundown.


BOMAS OF KENYA;

Highlights: Traditional dancing and Cultural Centre
A Boma is a homestead and just a few kilometers from Nairobi we have the Bomas of Kenya where the day-to-day lives of the 43 different ethnic groups in Kenya are depicted through traditional dancing, music, song and folklore. These plus an acrobatic show are performed in a splendid arena.


THE CARNIVORE EXPERIENCE
Highlights: Lunch or Dinner at an ideal eating spot meat lovers set in lovely gardens outside the City Centre
This is one of Nairobi's premier eating places and is famous as the restaurant where you partake of both venison and various other meat that has been prepared to international standards. Also at the same venue is Simba Restaurant - one of the best places of entertainment in the Kenyan city featuring both dance and wine with artists performing from all over the world

KAREN BLIXEN;

Highlights: Karen Blixen Museum, hand made ceramics, jeweler making at Kazuri and the Giraffe Centre.
Drive towards Ngong Hills by passing the Ngong village to the Karen Blixen Museum of the 'Out of Africa' fame, which was for many years her home. Later proceed to the Giraffe Centre to view and feed the famous Rothschild's giraffe which is an endangered species from a specially constructed viewing - platform.



LAKE NAKURU DAY TRIP

Highlights: Rift Valley Escarpment and Game Viewing in Lake Nakuru National Park
The 160km drive from Nairobi passes through rolling farms of Kikuyu people before descending the escarpment into the dramatic landscape of the Rift Valley. After lunch enjoy an afternoon game drive which focuses on the magnificent spectacle of thou sands of flamingoes.
Lake Nakuru's claim to fame is anchored on its flamingo's and the over 400 species of birds found here. The lake itself is a soda lake on the floor of the rift valley. The sight of the at times millions of flamingos is quite spectacular. From a distance the lake appears ringed in pink. The Lake has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species- particularly the Rothschild Giraffe and the black and white rhino. Lions, waterbuck, buffalo and baboons are all residents' here

 

HELL'S GATE NATIONAL PARK

Despite its name, Hell's Gate is an ideal family getaway for a day trip from Nairobi or stopover en-route to Lake Nakura or the Masai Mara, located just beyond Lake Naivasha. Famous for its natural hot geysers, eagle and vulture breeding grounds, visitors have the choice of driving, walking, camping, cycling and rockclimbing within the park. Horseback safaris can also be arranged. Special locations to view include Fischer's Tower, formerly a volcano's plug, the Central Tower and Njorowa Gorges. Two extinct volcanos: Olkaria and Hobley's are worth a trip. Natural steam vents rise from fissures in the volcanic rock. Obsidian, a striking black glassy rock formed from cooled molten lava is a feature of this landscape.

 

GIRAFFE CENTER

 

The giraffe center is a wonderful and refreshing experience undertaken during AfricanMecca's Out Of Africa excursion starting in Nairobi. The tour gives a completely up close and personal interaction where guests have the opportunity to view giraffes as well as feed them.
The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya (A.F.E.W. Kenya) also known as the Giraffe Center is a non-governmental, non-profit making organization, which was founded by Betty and Jock Leslie-Melville in 1979. This was in a bid to save the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, which had lost its natural habitat in Western Kenya to agriculture and there were only 130 left in the wild. Funds were raised and four herds were moved to four parks namely Lake Nakuru National Park, Mwea Game Reserve, Ruma National Park and Nasalot Game Reserve. Today the Rothschild Giraffe population in Kenya is about 500.

 

DAVID SHELDRICK ANIMAL ORPHANAGE
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a small flexible charity, established in memory of David Sheldrick, famous Naturalist and founder Warden of Kenya's giant Tsavo East National Park in which he served from 1948 until 1976

 

 

 

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM
Kenya National Museum - Nairobi City Tour The National Museum is located within Nairobi City and is an excellent place to visit while in the city. The museum is famous the Leakey prehistoric artefacts plus some of Kenya's best preserved tribal artefacts that date back hundreds of years. Other sights within the museum include well preserved birds, butterflies and animals and host of information about the country's rich past and culture.

 

MOUNT LONGONOT TRIP

  Mount Longonot Day Trip hiking Safari to the top of the Great Rift Valley will give you the chance to experience the freedom and awesome wildness of East Africa. Mt Longonot is just less than 9100 ft above sea level with a tree filled interior and a lonesome steam vent to the northeast. A climb up Mount Longonot is an ideal day trip from either Nairobi or Naivasha. Best time to visit / travel is the months of January to April and from September to December Mount Longonot Day Trip hiking Safari departs daily from Nairobi after breakfast and the drive takes approximately an hour. You start the assent at 6000 ft. Like all good uphill hikes it will lull you in to a sense of false security with a slow gentle rise to the first peak. This gives you a chance to get your lungs and limbs freed up for the second section, which is the most awesome. At the end of each section there is a rest point where you can prepare yourself for the next part of your journey.

 

KIBERA SLUM NAIROBI

 

This is ranked the second largest slum is sub Saharan Africa second to Soweto slums in South Africa. The name 'Kibera' is a Nubian word for 'forest.' The original settlers were Sudanese soldiers who settled there after fighting for the British in World War One. The Kibera Slums is located in an area 5 Kilometers South East of City Centre Nairobi. It is the most populated informal settlement in East Africa, housing about one third of Nairobi's population.
Kibera is divided into nine official villages, each with its own Village Elder. They are: Gatwekera, Kianda, Soweto, Kisumu Ndogo, Lindi, Laini Saba, Siranga/ Undugu, Makina, and Mashimoni. These villages, excludes Raila centre which rest on the northern half of the valley east of the Nairobi Dam
